Sales PresentationTimeshare Sales PitchJanuary 23rd, 2009Many have asked how to avoid the high pressure sales presentation when going on a vacation to a timeshare resort. One of the things that to know is that you have to take a presentation before you get the gift that was agreed upon. The thing that you need to know is that you only have to stay for a certain amount of time and when that time is up, just get up and leave. Ensure that you look at your watch when they log you in at the front desk and ensure that you tell the sales rep that it is your understanding that the presentation will only last 90 minutes. Sales reps hate that, but you have to let them know up front that you know how long you are required to be there. It is illegal for a timeshare company to keep you longer than the advertised time period and they MUST give you your gifts before you leave. The real estate commission will come down hard on any timeshare company if they do not do this. This is tracked internally with the company and they all keep good records, as long as you are in the U.S. Another thing that must be done is that you and your spouse, if you are married, must agree prior to walking in the door to say no. Remember to build your pact. You are a team. You can always come back and buy later. Yes, that deal will be there tomorrow, and the next day. You must tour the models, and listen to the sales pitch. Remember, if you tell them you don’t vacation now, and don’t plan on vacationing in the future, they will have nothing to work from….the sales rep’s goal is to build a vacation calculator that is based off of the money previously spent on vacations, and on future vacations. Then sum that all together times 20 years, with a ridiculous amount of inflation and interest, and they will have you come up with a huge $ amount!! Now, when the price of the timeshare is $20,000, that won’t seem so bad… when in reality you will have spent over a 20 year period about $50,000. Heard of Maintenance Fees?
