Just wanted to share the call that I received the other day. Out of the blue I get a call from a manager from the timeshare company I used to work for. Apparently they just found out that we started Timeshare Advocacy International and he did not like the fact that we are potentially going to show timeshare owners and potential owners that there are scams out there and they are being watched. The language was so foul that I had to quickly try to take the message off speaker phone because my family was in the room.
Here is the funny thing about this. I have never mentioned the company I used to work for. I have never bad mouthed any timeshare company, nor have I mentioned anyone by name. I did my research and found out that I could indeed do that if I wanted to. I still believe that the company does not matter. The majority of them are the same and feel that we at TAI are scum for assisting you, the owner. There was another manager who called was a heck of a lot more professional is his approach.
If they are following the laws set bu the Real Estate Commission and their companies ethics policy, what do they have to worry about? Growing up, my mother used to always tell me that when you do not lie, you never need a good memory. That is all they need to do is tell the truth and do something that is foreign to most sales reps. Help the timeshare owner as you would want to be helped. By the way, the majority of sales reps that state they are owners are telling you a lie and you can verify if in fact they are owners by calling owner relations. They even make fake cards to show they are owners.
Bottom line, you need to be careful because with the economy the way it is and the timeshare company stocks tanking the way they are, you will be targeted when you take your vacation. The easy way to not be hassled is to not answer your room phone unless it is a call you are expecting and do not let anyone besides house keeping and maintenance in your room.
One last thing, Mark Silverman wrote an awesome three part series on one of the timeshare assistance companies that claim to take your timeshare off your hands for you. You really need to read and follow Mark on Twitter, bookmark his blog, or link through us.
Good day and when you go on vacation – Relax and Enjoy!

Your Mom is correct. When you stick with the truth, you stay out of trouble. There really are timeshare companies that care about their customers and some of them actually charge fees up front for legitimate services such as active advertising, no closing costs, no commissions and in-house attorneys.
Mark Silverman is a good source of information to recommend. I have been following him for a while and he does a good job of getting info out there about timesharing. He isn’t selling anything and gives a great unbiased report.
