Most timeshare owners are extremely confused and unsure when it comes to timeshare resale companies. Timeshare Advocacy International has spent literally hundreds of hours researching this industry for any signs of truth and integrity in this area.
TAI speaks to thousands of timeshare owners who are looking for a way to get out from underneath their timeshare. Some simply cannot afford it. Some just don’t use it anymore, but the overwhelming majority has been scammed by the timeshare company in some way. What is really disturbing is that approximately 65 percent have reported that they have paid a resale company to sale their property without any results whatsoever.
We have heard stories of owners who have used resale companies several times only to be taken advantage of time after time. Many get callers stating that they have already found a buyer for your property and all the owner has to do is pay the closing cost.
Let’s step back for a second. How could a resale company find a buyer if the owner has never listed their timeshare? Why would the owner need to pay closing costs if the seller has indeed paid for the timeshare?
The closing cost should be deducted from the transaction amount. There are so many red flags that go up when we hear these stories, but for a frustrated and desperate timeshare owner, they sound like their last option.
Let’s shift to the state of Florida. The Florida Attorney General’s office has finally seen the light and has started holding these fly by the night companies accountable. The problem is that many of these scam resale companies are gone and out of business before they can be taken to justice. Additionally, when you google “timeshare resale companies” you will get over 81,000 results. What does that tell you?
The bottom line is this, timeshares hold no real value and the fact is you are not going to get what you paid for, or even 1/10 of what you paid for your timeshare period. Ebay and Craigslist are full of every timeshare you can imagine and the owners are begging people to take them for $1.00. You cannot even give them away. Reality is that owning a timeshare is like owning a boat anchor. It is only good for one thing, and that is to sink.
Now the question is what are your options?
You can keep your timeshare and try to enjoy it. The problem is simple with this option. How are you all of the sudden going to be able to use something that you have not been able to do up to this point? How can you justify continuing to pay for something that you don’t or cannot use? Do you really want to put your children through the frustration of being a timeshare owner?
Try to sell your timeshare. As discuss in depth above, you have better odds of winning the lottery than you do selling your timeshare.
